The Bessemer Process and Modern Steel Production

The growth of railways across both Europe and America during the 19th century placed immense pressure on the iron industry, which was still struggling with inefficient production processes. At that time, steel had not yet proven itself as a structural product, and its production was both slow and costly. However, this situation changed completely in 1856, when Henry Bessemer discovered a more effective way to introduce oxygen into molten iron to reduce its carbon content.
